The Akiba Museum is located at the entrance of the university campus of Mahajanga.
This small and well-kept place gathers old photographs of the city of flowers, handicrafts and testimonials that retrace the history and the prehistoric and cultural wealth of the city of Majunga.
The palaeontology section is the big star of the exhibition, with impressive fossils and dinosaur skeletons found in the Mahajamba valley in the Sofia region.
Also to be discovered: a presentation of the flora and fauna biodiversity of the Boeny region and posters of the economy of the Middle West with a wide selection of local handicrafts.
How to get there?
The museum is set back from the city center. If you take a cab, it would be more prudent to ask the driver to wait for you while you visit. But the return on foot would also be an opportunity to appreciate the landscape of the Malagasy west coast along the cornice.
Museum opening hours :
- Wednesday to Friday: from 9 am to 11 am and from 3 pm to 5 pm
- Saturday and Sunday: from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
