Organic Producer – Crafts in Vetiver
The culture of vetiver
In the Analamanga region of Madagascar, we cultivate the feet of vetiver on land that is not used for traditional agriculture due to their lack of water.
This land suits us very well because it has never been cultivated, never known fertilizer “they are 100% organic”
Harvesting vetiver’s feet
Planting and harvesting takes place during the rainy season.
To extract the roots, we dig 80 cm and then cut to 5 cm from the collar.
The foot is then divided into 2 part to replant it, the second part of the foot serves us the nursery for soil support.
After extracting the root we wash it and dry it and then market it to perfumers or use it for crafts.
We use vetiver to make a variety of artisanal products such as:
- Bath mats
- Nests or baskets
Vetiver is well known for its relaxing, soporific or fungicide virtues.
