The Ivondro palm grove is one of the tourist sites not to be missed during your stay in Tamatave. Covering an area of 3,000 hectares, this large oil palm plantation belongs to the Tropical Soap Factory of Madagascar.
This unique and unusual agrotouristic site aims to promote palm oil production in order to reduce deforestation and preserve local biodiversity.
The activities within the site
The hikes are based on the visit of the palm oil processing plant and the discovery of local products (cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, etc.).
Along the Ivondro River, admire the workers’ village, a landscape adorned with green hills and animated by the passage of a freight train. This historic train is in charge of supplying the neighboring regions.
The site is accessible from the national road that leads to Antananarivo, 20 km from the exit of Tamatave. Adventurers can also go by pirogue from the Pangalanes canal, via the Ivondro river.
On the spot, the restaurant offers the famous specialties based on coconuts, palm hearts and exotic fruits.
